Apple is expected to launch its new iPad mini tablet PC next Tuesday. The California-based electronics giant sent out an invitation to members of the U.S. press Tuesday for an event on Oct. 23 with the Apple logo alongside the tagline "We've got a little more to show you," the Wall Street Journal reported.
The iPad mini is expected to feature a 7.85-inch screen compared with the 9.7-inch screen of previous versions. It is likely to be priced at US$300, about half the price of the New iPad released in April.
Rivals like Google have recently advanced into the mid-priced tablet PC market with the Nexus 7, which has a 7-inch screen. Microsoft is set to introduce a new tablet PC in time with its release of Windows 8.
Prior to the announcement of Apple's third quarter earnings on Oct. 25, analysts are downsizing earnings forecasts due to sluggish sales of the iPhone 5, business magazine Fortune said.
Apple's share price hit $700 a share on Sept. 12 when the iPhone 5 was rolled out but plunged to $620 after complaints about bugs in the phone's Maps app and vulnerability to scratching.
