A Chinese fisherman was killed by a rubber bullet fired by a Korean coast guard on Tuesday. The Korean Coast Guard on Tuesday said the man was among the crew of over 30 Chinese trawlers caught fishing illegally in Korean waters 90 km northwest of Hongdo, South Jeolla Province.
During the afternoon raid, the 44-year-old was shot in the chest by a rubber bullet and collapsed. He was taken to hospital but died at 6 p.m.
The Coast Guard said the fishermen violently resisted arrest by brandishing hacksaws and knives. The Foreign Ministry informed the Chinese Embassy about the incident and expressed condolences to the bereaved family.
