Olympic figure skating champion Kim Yu-na received a handcrafted case for carrying her skates and accessories as a special gift from Louis Vuitton on Monday.
Kim, who has been carrying her skates in regular travel suitcase until now, accepted the offer of a free luxury gift from the designer brand in January and requested a 45 cm-high case. A craftsman then spent nine months perfecting the item according to Kim's wishes in a studio in Asnieres, near Paris.
Louis Vuitton said it will make one more identical case early next year. Kim plans to put this up for auction together with an autographed pair of her skates and donate the entire proceeds to UNICEF. She has been engaged in helping young people in need as a goodwill ambassador for the charity organization since 2010.
