Korea Southern Power Corporation has joined forces with Samsung Heavy Industries to build Korea's first offshore wind farm.
The two companies established a so-called special purpose vehicle named Daejeong Offshore Wind Power, which in turn placed an order with Samsung Heavy to build 12 7 MW offshore wind turbines off the coast of Jeju Island.
The southern coast of Jeju Island is considered to have optimum conditions for wind power generation due to its high winds. The wind farm will be built 2 km off the coast of Seogwipo where the water is 30 m deep. It is to be completed in 2014 and go into operation the following year.
