Consumer spending has lagged behind economic growth in Korea for the past three years, adding to concerns about the deepening recession.

The Bank of Korea said on Monday that the slower pace of growth in consumer spending has been seen from the third quarter of 2009.

Meanwhile, household debt has outpaced economic growth, fueling concerns that this will further hamper domestic demand.
