The government has decided to expand the number of convicted sex offenders whose identities are posted on a dedicated website.
So far it posts details of convicted sex offenders whose crimes date back to April of last year, when a law authorizing the move came into effect. But new regulations backdate the measure to April 2008, adding another 2,817 convicted sex offenders to the list.
The list will also be expanded from child sex offenders to all sex offenders.
A meeting of related ministries on Thursday decided on the measure as part of a policy to crack down on sex crimes. Earlier, it also expanded the scope of chemical castration for sex offenders targeting minors, raising the age bar of victims from 16 to 19.
