Nineteen Korean firms have been selected for the Dow Jones Sustainability Indexes World this year, according to the Korea Productivity Center on Thursday.
They include stalwarts of the list like Samsung SDI, which is included for the ninth year, POSCO, included for the eighth year, SK Telecom (fifth year), and KT (third).
The DJ Sustainability Indexes have been released annually since 1999 by U.S. financial information firm S&P Dow Jones Indices and SAM, a Swiss corporate sustainability assessment firm.
A total of 2,500 top global firms were evaluated, and 13.4 percent or 340 made the cut based on their float-adjusted market capitalization.
Three more Korean firms than last year are included. The new entrants are Daewoo Securities, LG Electronics, Samsung Life Insurance, and SK C&C, while LG Household & Healthcare, which was included last year, was dropped.
Meanwhile, 33 Korean companies, three more than last year, made it into the DJSI Asia-Pacific, evaluating the top 600 firms in the region.
