Shin Ji-yai won the longest playoff in the history of the U.S. LPGA Tour at the Kingsmill Resort in Williamsburg, Virginia on Monday.
Shin clinched the title by holding off American Paula Creamer after protracted play. The two battled it out through eight playoff holes, all contested on the par-four 18th, until darkness suspended the game on Sunday.
The playoff resumed Monday morning on the par-four 16th and Shin won her ninth LPGA victory and the winner’s purse of US$195,000.
The 24-year-old former world No. 1 has also contended recently with a catalog of injuries, and her previous win came almost two years ago in November 2010.
