Lawmakers' Income Soars to W200 Million

Lawmakers in the 19th National Assembly will earn up to W194.78 million this year, combining their basic salary with stipends to cover expenses on office, car and staff. (US$1=W1,136)

According to data from the National Assembly on Wednesday, their base salary rose 16 percent from last year to W147.37 million a year or W12.28 million per month.

Stipends remain the same as last year at W47.41 million for the whole year or W3.95 million per month. This means the total increased by 11.7 percent.

But the total excludes new support for public servants' families and children's education that have been given to lawmakers since last year, so legislators in fact make over W200 million.
