Police in Naju, South Jeolla Province on Sunday arrested a suspect in the abduction and rape of a seven-year-old girl.

Ko Jong-suk (23) faces charges of abducting the girl while she was sleeping in the living room of her home, raping her under a bridge 300 m from her home and trying to strangle her to death.

Police said Ko confessed under interrogation that he tried to kill the child because she knew what he looks like, and fled believing she was dead. It added blood found on Ko's underpants matched the girl's.

The Gwangju District Court issued the arrest warrant saying it was clear that a grave crime has been committed and there is a strong flight risk.
