More practical and affordable goods are expected to be popular for this year's Chuseok, or Korean Thanksgiving, which falls on Sept. 30, due to the prolonged recession.
Industry sources said on Sunday that major retailers like department stores and discount stores are focusing on offering lower-priced goods as they are now taking pre-orders for Chuseok gift items.
They are also offering bigger discounts to bolster their holiday sales.
Fruit is likely to be in greater demand as seasonal rains have caused less damage to crops this year, lowering its prices.
