At least 1,558 child sex offenders are to be released from prison over the next four years. Saenuri Party lawmaker Kim Hak-yong on Monday quoted data from the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family and the Justice Ministry as saying that 38 child sex offenders will be released from prison this year, 102 in 2013, 371 in 2014, 562 in 2015 and 485 in 2016.
People who have received suspended sentences or fines for sexual crimes have their identities made public immediately after sentencing, but sex offenders who serve time in prison have their profiles including ID photos and addresses revealed on a government website after they are released.
With the release over the next four years, the number of sex offenders whose identities are posted on the government website will rise from the present 2,048 to more than 3,606.
