The Seoul Metropolitan Government announced on Thursday that it will enforce comprehensive measures to tackle social ills caused by drinking amid growing concern about the country's heavy culture of imbibing.
Advertisements for alcoholic beverages will disappear from bus stops as well as the exteriors of buses in Seoul from September. Large discount stores will also be required to display liquor products more discreetly.
Currently, 349 buses in Seoul carry alcohol advertisements, which generate about W295 million in annual profit for bus operators.
Similar advertisements will also be banned from subway trains in the near future.
