Online game maker NCsoft has posted an operating loss for the first time in six years due to massive restructuring.
The firm on Wednesday said it recorded an operating loss of W7.6 billion in the second quarter of this year, while sales fell 12 percent on-year to W146.8 billion (US$1=W1,130).
NCsoft attributed the loss to hefty once-off severance pay as a result of restructuring in June. The firm reportedly paid around W15 billion in severance packages to 400 workers who were laid off.
But since the firm's "Blade and Soul" has been performing well since its launch in late June, earnings will likely improve again from the third quarter, a company spokesperson said.
