K-Pop Event Opens in London

While the crowds cheered the Korean football team at St. James Park in Newcastle on the other side of town, K-pop idol group Super Junior's hit song "Sorry Sorry" blared for the K-pop faithful at a jam-packed dance studio in Chelsea Town Hall, London.

Young K-pop fans gathered in the British capital for a special two-week K-pop academy, shaking their bodies to trendy electronic beats.

"I'm really excited because it's such a great opportunity, especially for those who can’t usually afford to see them in the flesh," said Chloe Pavlou, founder of K-Pop Lovers United Event, a fan club.

The K-pop phenomenon is growing rapidly across the UK, said Edwina Mukasa, a contributing writer for British daily the Guardian.
