Samsung Electronics sold over 50,000 of its latest Galaxy S3 LTE smartphones on the day of its launch Monday, a record for domestic smartphone sales.

Samsung said the figure is more than twice the sales of its predecessor, the Galaxy S2 (24,000 units), and five times the sales of the Galaxy S (10,000 units).

A Samsung spokesman said the phone has gone mainly to people who had pre-ordered it, and sales will grow even more now it is available to all consumers.
