An updated version of the "Donguibogam," a historic medical encyclopedia designated by UNESCO as part of the Memory of the World, will be compiled 400 years after the original was published.

"Donguibogam" was compiled by royal physician Heo Jun in 1613 during the reign of King Seonjo.

The Korea Institute of Oriental Medicine announced Wednesday it plans to release an updated version of "Donguibogam."

The project, to be carried out over the next six years, aims to synthesize the clinical and scientific achievements of modern Oriental medicine.
