Actor and singer Lee Seung-gi served as a torch bearer for the London Games over the weekend, carrying the flame for 320 m from Stratford Avenue to Manchester Road in Rochdale, northeast of Manchester, on Saturday.

"I'm very honored that I was able to participate in the Olympics through the torch relay and I'd like to thank Samsung for providing me with this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity," he said.

Olympic sponsor Samsung Electronics reserved the right to select 1,360 torchbearers for the London Games, which get under way late next month. Lee was chosen as he has modeled for the company's commercials.

The Olympic torch started its 70-day journey on May 19 and will travel a total of 13,000 km before it arrives at the Olympic Stadium in London for the opening ceremony on July 27.
