Plans to Improve Showbiz Working Conditions

The government wants to limit the maximum time for shooting a TV drama or entertainment program to 18 hours a day as part of an initiative to improve working conditions in showbusiness. The aim is to save entertainers from having to stand in front of the camera all night or wait on set as scripts are revised at the last minute.

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism is to announce the initiative on Wednesday and hold a public hearing. Under the same initiative, young actors and musicians will be able to turn to the aid of lawyers or accountants to view their contract with a talent management agency.

The ministry plans to make it mandatory for agencies to let entertainers see scripts and other material related to a program at least three days before filming starts, set an 18-hour cap on daily filming, and prohibit three straight days of filming for 18 hours a day.
