The first video footage captured by multi-purpose satellite Arirang-3, aka KOMPSAT-3, was released on Thursday. The 0.7-m resolution video shows Jeodong Port in Ulleung Island and was taken on May 25, a week after the satellite was launched.
Its camera can picture objects as small as 70x70 cm on the ground.

The difference of resolution becomes apparent when pictures are compared to images of the same place taken on March 7, 2009 by the older Arirang-2 satellite, which had a camera with 1 m resolution.
The Korean Aerospace Research Institute said Arirang-3 will start video service from September, when final corrections are being made.
