Yeosu Expo to Restore Advance Booking

The organizers of the 2012 Yeosu Expo will partially re-open the pre-booking system, which was scrapped amid public controversy on May 27. Kang Dong-suk, the chairman of the organizing committee, told reporters Monday, "To successfully run the event and avoid any further criticism about shoddy management, we are working on partially restoring a booking system and satisfy everyone."

Advance booking is expected to go back into operation from June 25.

Kang said, "Based on the widespread use of smartphones, we initially thought an online booking system relying on IT technology was ideal. But we had to withdraw it as many flaws in management surfaced -- for example, visitors who came early to Yeosu for the Expo but did not book in advance had to be turned away."

He said the elderly also have problems with the system, so the organizers are thinking of having first-come first-serve admission in the morning and reinstating advance booking for the afternoon, when queuing time gets shorter.
