Samsung Electronics' overseas employees outnumber domestic staff for the first time. The company's 119,753 workers abroad made up 54 percent of all 221,726 employees as of late last year, according to a report Samsung released Tuesday.
As a result of an increase in overseas production, the proportion of staff abroad grew 4.2 percentage points from 49.8 percent a year ago and the number by about 25,000, compared to a mere 6,500 new staff in Korea. This is the first time since the company was established in 1969 that overseas employees have outnumbered domestic employees.
