Homeplus to Promote Korean Cuisine During Olympics

Homeplus will hold a special promotion of Korean food in London during the Summer Olympics, which will take place from July 27 to Aug. 12 in the British capital.

The retailer announced on Sunday that the event will be held in partnership with Tesco at the British supermarket giant’s store in New Malden for over a month from July 25. The district in southwest London serves as home to the largest Korean community in the U.K.

This is the result of a three-way agreement among Tesco, Homeplus and the Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Corporation (KOTRA) in October 2010 to support small and medium-sized Korean exporters. The event will feature 150 types of Korean food products from over 30 companies.

Homeplus added that it held a similar promotion at the same store last July in time for the effectuation of the Korea-EU FTA, and recorded sales of 25,000 pounds (W45 million).

The 50 items that received the strongest reception from British customers last year will be sold in three Tesco stores, including the one in New Malden, in the near future.
