UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon is set to receive the Distinguished Leadership Award by the Atlantic Council, a major U.S. think-tank, in Washington D.C. in May.

The 68-year-old is being recognized for his efforts to bring world leaders together to help solve major global issues such as finding solutions to food, water and energy shortages through the international organization.

The council presents leadership awards each year in five areas, including diplomacy, military, business, humanitarian issues and the arts.
