54% of Eligible Voters Go to Polls

Voter turnout in Wednesday's general election was 54.3 percent, 8.2 percentage points higher than the previous general election, but a percentage point lower than the 2010 regional elections.

Turnout was very close to the 55 percent both the ruling and opposition parties had considered as the watershed required for victory. That means the common excuse of low voter turnout they used to justify their poor performance in previous elections did not play a role this time, according to pundits.
