Kia Motors aims to go up-market in May with the launch of its new K9 luxury sedan. The car will cost consumers W10 million (US$1=W1,132) more than the Genesis produced by its affiliate Hyundai Motor, with which it shares the same platform. Kia was due to begin receiving pre-orders on Monday, a spokesman said over the weekend.
A 3.3-liter version of the car will retail for between W53 million and W65 million, while the 3.8-liter model will cost between W63.5 million and W87.5 million. In contrast, the Genesis retails from W42.11 million to W77.18 million.
"The K9 and Genesis offer the same engine sizes. But the K9 is more on par with Hyundai's Equus limousine considering its larger size and more up-to-date features," the Kia spokesman added.
