U.K. Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg is to meet North Korean defectors who study at universities here on March 27 on the sidelines of the Nuclear Security Summit. A diplomatic source in Seoul on Monday said Clegg plans to meet with a dozen defectors who are studying English at the British Council in Seoul.
Clegg will invite them to a restaurant in Insa-dong to hear about their life in South Korea and their views on the human rights situation in North Korea.
It is rare for a high-ranking official from abroad to meet with North Korean defectors in South Korea. Clegg was apparently inspired by recent protests against China's repatriation of North Korean refugees, which was raised in the UN High Commission for Refugees.
