Korea has one of the lowest birthrates in the world, and the lowest in the country is in the capital.
A new report from the Seoul Foundation of Women and Family shows that Seoul had an average of 1.02 births per woman in 2010. That is the lowest in the country as the national average stands at 1.23 births.
However, the low birthrate in Seoul does not mean that women living in the capital do not want to have kids. In a separate survey, married women in Seoul answered that they want to have an average of 1.96 kids.
Seoul city officials say that the low birthrate amongst women in Seoul might be because the government only supports lower income families for fertility treatments.
