Apple has sold more than 1 million iPads in Korea, just 14 months after the first iPad was released here in November 2010, according to the industry on Sunday.
Sales soared from 200,000 units in 2010 to 700,000 units last year, and are estimated to have already reached 100,000 units this year. The U.S. consumer electronics giant unveiled the iPad 2 in the country last April.
It is expected to roll out the next-generation model in the U.S. early next month, with sales due to begin here sometime in the first half of this year.
According to market researcher Strategic Analysis, the iPad series grabbed 57.6 percent of the global market for tablet PCs with sales of 15.4 million units in the fourth quarter of last year. Although this was down 10 percentage points from one year earlier, the iPad still ranks as the world's favorite tab.
