The extended period of subfreezing temperatures has taken a toll on the price of fruits and vegetables.
Korea is experiencing the coldest February in decades this year, and according to the Korea Agro-Fisheries and Food Trade Corporation on Wednesday, the low temperatures caused the price of fresh goods to soar by up to 50 percent in just one week.
The organization attributes the increase to reduced supplies and increasing cultivation costs. Experts say if the cold persists, higher demand for oil and rising agriculture prices could spark consumer price volatility.
