The number of North Korean workers at the inter-Korean Kaesong Industrial Complex has surpassed the 50,000 mark.
The Unification Ministry says with over 400 new people hired by South Korean companies last week, the total stood at 50,315 at the end of January.
It adds these workers have so far been paid some US$190 million since the project was launched in 2004.
Annual production from the business park hit the $400-million mark last year, and exports to countries like China, Russia and the European Union totaled nearly $37 million in the same year.
The ministry says despite strained inter-Korean relations, the scale of business activities at Kaesong has actually grown.
