People should expect a cold pinch this week and dress accordingly, the Korea weather agency said.
Seoul saw flurries of snow on Tuesday afternoon and the mercury stayed below zero for most of the day, with the morning low recorded at minus 6 degrees Celsius. As the day's temperatures were two to three degrees lower than expected at this time of year, the Korea Meteorological Administration warned that more of the same is likely to follow.
In the capital, the snowdrift grew heavier in the late afternoon but was not heavy enough to settle. However, sleet formations led to slippery sidewalks, causing headaches for pedestrians from Gwacheon in Gyeonggi Province to northern Seoul.
Warnings of cold fronts were issued for Seoul and its surrounding regions, as well as parts of Gangwon, North Chungcheong and North Gyeongsang provinces on Tuesday. The nation's easternmost islets of Ulleung and Dokdo, as well as southernmost Jeju Island, were expecting over 20 cm of snow by Wednesday.
