The fourth installment of Tom Cruise's hugely successful "Mission: Impossible" franchise, "Ghost Protocol," topped the box office over the weekend after attracting 200,000 viewers on its opening day last Thursday.

In just three days, 893,205 people bought tickets for the movie, according to the Korean Film Council. With the number of weekend moviegoers factored in, the film is expected to have drawn an audience of over 1 million fans as of Sunday.

But whether it can sustain this early level of interest remains to be seen, as highly anticipated domestic films are due to be released this Wednesday.

Top of the list are veteran filmmaker Kang Je-gyu's war-themed blockbuster "My Way" and Kim Sung-tae's "Perfect Game," which focuses on a marathon 15-inning game between the Haitai Tigers and Lotte Giants in Korea's baseball history.
