Four days after Ulsan thermal-power plant stopped operating on Dec. 9, one unit at the Uljin Nuclear Power Plant also halted operation on Tuesday. It is the third accident of its kind in a week if a power cut in the Ulsan petrochemical industrial complex on Tuesday last week is counted.
The Uljin Nuclear Power Plant under the Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power, stopped running due to faults in the turbine at around 8 p.m. on Tuesday.
The large plant has a capacity of 950,000 kW. KHNP said no damage such as radioactive leaks occurred as a result of the halt in operation. It believes the fault was in the machine that condensates steam generated from the turbine and expects the plant to be back up and running on Wednesday.
