Yun Jung-hee, 67, has been named as the best actress of the year by the Los Angeles Film Critics Association for her performance in the Korean film, "Poetry."
Yun beat out 29-year-old American actress Kirsten Dunst, who took home the best actress award at this year's Cannes Film Festival. She became the second Korean actress to win the accolade following Kim Hye-ja, who received the award for her role in "Mother" last year.
"Poetry," directed by Lee Chang-dong, raises questions about the ironies of life and the meaning of art through the story of a suburban woman in her 60s. It was selected for the main competition at Cannes last year and won the best screenplay award.
In Korea, Yun took home the best actress awards at both the Blue Dragon Film Awards and the Daejong Film Awards last year.
The LAFCA selects winners in 16 categories based on the votes of film critics at the end of every year. The best film of the year went to Alexander Payne's "The Descendants," while Terrence Malick was named best director for "Tree of Life." The group named Michael Fassbender as the best actor for his role in "A Dangerous Method."
