The World Food Programme has decided to set aside nearly US$80 million to help the impoverished North Korean people next year.
According to Radio Free Asia, $43 million will go to its relief operations in the North, while another $34.6 million will be directed towards emergency operations there.
The UN agency 2012 budget for the reclusive state is nearly 70 percent higher than last year's budget of $48 million.
Through its emergency operation, which will continue until March, the organization plans to feed more than 2.2 million North Koreans, mostly children and women.
