Hit South Korean variety TV programs like "Happy Sunday: 1 Night 2 Days" and "The Unlimited Challenge," are hugely popular in North Korea as well.
Lee Joo-chul, a researcher with terrestrial broadcaster KBS, in a meeting on Thursday said defectors report that high-ranking North Korean officials are especially fond of South Korean TV.
The researcher said that more and more North Koreans living south of Pyongyang and Hamhung watch South Korean TV.
"Considering that TV broadcast signals transmitted in the Seoul metropolitan area reach as far as Cheonan and Dangjin, transmissions from the DMZ area can reach as far as Pyongyang, and improved reception in the North also plays a part."
