Kang Ho-dong

Comedian Kang Ho-dong, who ranks as one of the top TV hosts in the country, has reportedly expressed his wish to step down from "Happy Sunday: 1 Night 2 Days," a popular variety show on KBS that attracts viewer ratings of 20 to 30 percent.

"Kang conveyed his intention to quit to fellow members of the program about a week ago, and other staff members were subsequently informed of the news," a KBS official said in a telephone interview with the Chosun Ilbo on Wednesday.

"The production crew opposed the idea as the program is still very popular, so a final decision has not been made yet," he added.

The reason behind Kang's desire to leave the show has not yet been revealed.
