Models walk the catwalk at a hanbok fashion show held to raise awareness of Korea's sovereignty to Dokdo, on Ulleung Island on Wednesday.

A hanbok fashion show co-hosted by The Korean Senior Citizens Association and Miraemunhwa Foundation, in which designer Lee Young-hee serves as a representative, was held on Ulleung Island on Wednesday afternoon.

The show was scheduled to be held on Tuesday on the disputed islets of Dokdo, which Japan also claims, to celebrate Korea's Liberation Day on Aug. 15. However, it was shifted to Ulleung, the nearest accessible island, as the inclement weather made it impossible to reach the original destination.

Lee, who has done more than most to promote Korea's traditional clothing in the West, displayed about 40 hanboks. They included modified upgrades, costumes for kings and queens of the Chosun Dynasty, and outfits that Lee featured in a Paris Haute Couture collection in July last year.

"I have achieved most of my goals in the fashion world, such as participating in foreign collections, but I have found lately there are some things that are not going as I would have liked," said the famous designer. "Although it wasn't possible this time, I really want to hold a fashion show on Dokdo someday."
