South Korea and the United States will practice destroying North Korea's weapons of mass destruction during their 10-day Ulchi Freedom Guardian exercise this month to improve their combat readiness.
According to an anonymous government source, the two allies will form a combined unit called the Joint Task Force for Elimination when they start their annual joint military exercise on Aug. 16.
Korean soldiers along with some 350 American troops will take part in a computer-assisted simulation command-post exercise, practicing detecting and destroying North Korean facilities that produce atomic bombs, missiles and chemical weapons.
North Korea has described the South Korea-U.S. joint drills as a rehearsal for invasion, while the two partners describe them as defensive and routine operations.
