Getting from Bundang, Gyeonggi Province to Gangnam in southern Seoul will take a mere 16 minutes by subway from September. The Ministry of Land, Transport and Maritime Affairs on Thursday said the new subway line between Jeongja-dong, Bundang and Gangnam will open earlier than planned in late September.
The initial 17.3 km-long route will have six stations -- Gangnam, Yangjae, Yangjae Citizens' Forest, Cheonggyesan Ipgu (entrance to Mt. Cheonggye), Pangyo, and Jeongja. The fare is likely to be a little higher than for existing lines at W1,800 (US$1=W1,059).
Construction of the line took about six years and five months and cost W1.23 trillion. The original plan was to open the subway in December.
