The government finalized the target for greenhouse gas emissions at a Cabinet meeting on Tuesday morning.

The plan is to cut about 30 percent of the country's projected total greenhouse gas emission by the year 2020 of more than 8 million tons, by setting emission targets for 471 industrial firms. The general production sector is to cut its projected emissions by 18 percent and the transport industry is to aim for a 34 percent reduction. Electricity generation is to slash 26 percent of estimated emissions over the next nine years.

The plan is a follow-up to the greenhouse gas emission reduction policy announced in late 2009.
