Girls' Generation have sold over 500,000 copies of their first regular album recorded in Japanese and released in the neighboring country to build on their success with fans there.
The nine-member Korean girl band released the eponymous album on June 1 after scoring hits with several singles in the country. It has since gone double platinum, which in Japan means record sales of half a million or more, to rank as the best-selling album by a Korean girl band.
The girls have also set a new record as the first Korean girl group to top the Oricon Weekly Album Chart, which they did in the first week of the album's release.
Girls' Generation are now working their way through their first Japan tour, which consists of 14 concerts in six cities. They will hold their second series of solo concerts at the Gymnastics Stadium of Seoul Olympic Park on July 23 and 24.
