Olympic champion Kim Soo-nyung has been recognized as best female archer of all time by the International Archery Federation (FITA). FITA named Kim, who won gold medals at three Summer Games, as its Athlete of the 20th Century on Tuesday.

"Kim dominated her sport, even as a teenager, and is widely considered the greatest female archer ever," FITA wrote on its website.

Kim, who is also an executive member of the Korea Archery Association, won gold medals in the individual and women's team events at Seoul 1988 while still in her teens.

She built on this success at the following Olympics in Barcelona in 1992, where she helped Korea defend its team gold and added a silver medal in the individual competition.

Eight years later in Sydney, she capped a triumphant career at the Summer Games by clinching her third title in the team event and garnering a bronze in the individual event.

She also found her way to the top of the podium in both events at the 1989 and 1991 World Championships.

American Darrell Pace, who won individual gold at both the 1976 Montreal Olympics and the 1984 Games in Los Angeles, was named best male archer of the century.
