Dae-sung of popular boy band Big Bang has been charged over the death of a motorcyclist in a speeding accident.

The 22-year-old singer was driving his Audi across Yanghwa Bridge at 1:30 a.m. on Tuesday at 80 km/h, well over the 60 km/h speed limit, when he ran over the motorcyclist who was lying in the road and rammed into a parked taxi.

The motorcyclist, identified only by his surname Hyun (30), was dead when police arrived at the scene, and the rear bumper and screen of the taxi were damaged due to the collision.

"According to the taxi driver's account and images from a black box installed in the taxi, Hyun was lying on the ground before Dae-sung hit him, while the taxi driver had stopped his car in order to assess the situation," a police spokesman said. "It looks like Dae-sung's car ran over Hyun and crashed into the taxi just as the taxi driver was calling the police."

Dae-sung told police, he did not see anyone lying on the street but "felt something" beneath the car and stepped on the brake, but it "did not work." The singer was not driving under the influence, according to police, and was released in early Tuesday morning.
