Korean Diplomat Named Secretary-General of New Pan-Asian Body

The government last Saturday appointed Shin Bong-kil of the Foreign Ministry as the first secretary general of an international body to be launched for cooperation among Seoul, Beijing and Tokyo.

While attending a trilateral summit in Tokyo that day, the foreign ministers of the three countries endorsed Seoul's appointment of Shin. Shin has worked in the Korean embassies in both Tokyo and Beijing and was later ambassador to Jordan.
