Women Favor BMW, Men Audi

      Korean women's favorite foreign car brand is BMW, while men favor Audi. Second-hand dealer SK Encar on Thursday announced a straw poll of 556 adults on their preferred car brands, and BMW and Hyundai topped the list for imported and domestic brands.

      BMW came first among foreign brands with 29.1 percent, closely followed by Audi with 26.4 percent. Mercedes-Benz and Volkswagen were next with 18.3 percent and 4.9 percent.

      But while more men favored Audi with 28.7 percent over BMW with 25.9 percent, 40.3 percent of women chose BMW.

      An SK Encar spokesman said women like BMW for its high brand recognition and sleek design.

      Among domestic brands, 43.7 percent chose Hyundai, followed by Kia with 29.5 percent and Renault Samsung with 13.8 percent. Chevrolet, introduced to the Korean market by GM Korea in March, was picked by 9.9 percent, while Ssangyong got 1.4 percent.

      Park Hong-kyu of SK Encar said, "The best-selling cars in the second-hand car market are those with greater brand power like Hyundai, BMW, and Audi. More and more people will take brand image into consideration in addition to price when buying a used car."
