The nation's first communications satellite, Cheollian, has started commercial operations, making Korea the 10th country to have its own such satellite.

The Korea Communications Commission said on Monday that the weather-communications satellite launched last June is now in service.

The satellite will provide information to eight institutes and companies, including the Korea Meteorological Administration and the National Emergency Management Agency.
