Both SK Telecom and KT will begin selling the Apple iPad 2 here from April 28 or 29. An SK Telecom spokesperson said Monday that the company confirmed the launch of the tablet PC after wrapping up negotiations with Apple. A staffer at KT said it is in the final stages of talks with the California company.
KT had decided on its release of the iPad 2 last month, but SK Telecom had been lukewarm on launching it. SK Telecom believed that the device, which does not make phone calls, would not help boost its profits and that an increase in data usage would burden its communications network.
However, SK Telecom changed its mind after Samsung Electronics pushed back the release of its 10.1-inch Galaxy Tab to June, as it did not want KT to seize the tablet market before it could offer a competing product.
