Olympic figure skating champion Kim Yu-na returned to Korea after an eight-month absence on Sunday.
This was earlier than expected since she had been scheduled to compete in the International Skating Union World Figure Skating Championships in Tokyo from Monday, but the event was canceled due to the earthquake and tsunami in Japan.
Greeting fans at the airport Kim said, "I had high expectations for the world championships, so it's a shame that I couldn't show what I've been preparing. At this point, all I hope is that people in Japan are all right."
Kim will continue to train at the Taeneung Training Center in Korea and promote Pyeongchang's bid to host the 2018 Winter Olympics.
